Everything Everything – Photoshop Handsome (II Figures Remix)

December 20, 2010

Now, here’s another remix for you, II Figures reworked version of Photoshop Handsome, the current single from  Everything Everything’s debut album Man Alive (a fierce contender for album of the year). Described by some idiots as “surrealist neo-classical avant-pop for the digital age”, EvEv don’t have a particularly dancey vibe to their music in general, although Photoshop Handsome (amongst others) is delivered with a funky urgency giving rise to a certain “delicate chaosness” (I just made that up) which almost forces one to move around. But you would be forgiven for thinking EvEv’s intricate guitar work, piercing vocals and complicated song structure doesn’t make for good remixing material. This beautiful remix by II Figures strips away all that complication, leaving us with the beautiful shell of Photoshop Handsome, with a simple synth-glockenspiel replacing guitars, and vocals chopped and rearranged into a teasingly gentle verse before thrusting us back into the chorus, but not as you know it. True, this may only appeal to those who already know EvEv.. but I think it can stand up on its own as a great remix. If you aren’t familiar with Everything Everything, shame on you! Check out the video for the single version of Photoshop Handsome after the break.

Ps. EvEv dabble in DJing themselves, and would appear to be big fans of remixes having promoted dozens of them through their blog and Facebook. The choice of remix for this post was particularly difficult, as there are several brilliant remixes of Photoshop Handsome doing the rounds. Here’s another, or check out Everything Everything’s soundcloud page, where they upload their favourite remixes.

Whoah. Not a fan of the first mix Robbie, second one brings something a little more fresh to the table. However the anonymous post above kicks the living shit out of most of the mixes I have heard. I thought it was going to be a Suffragette Suffragette mix at first.
